The other night, I sat on the couch with a chunky blanket and a hot cup of Oolong tea. Theo snuggled against my chest, while I stroke his hair. The only sound you could hear was Toby cooing and gurgling from the baby nest. Then Thomas came in and smiled:
“That’s hygge,” he said rhetorically.
Theo and I both nodded.
Hygge is about an atmosphere. It’s about being with the people we love. A feeling of home and that we are safe. It’s about the little things in life. And it’s a cornerstone of Danish life and parenting.
