How to create a spiritual morning routine
Below, I’ll walk you through the steps of creating a spiritual morning routine that can help enhance your well-being and bring balance to your everyday life.
1. Set up your spiritual space
To make the most of your spiritual morning routine, it’s really important to find a special space that’s all your own.
This could be a corner of your home, a little altar you’ve set up, or even a spot outdoors if the weather is kind.
Just ensure this area is clean, organised, and filled with items that bring you joy and positivity. It’s your little sanctuary for starting the day right.
2. Schedule your spiritual time
Next step, set a special time each morning just for your routine. It’s all about putting your self-care and spiritual growth at the top of your to-do list.
If it helps, you might want to wake up a bit earlier.
This way, you have plenty of time to really get into your practices without any rush. Remember, it’s about starting your day off soaked in peace and purpose.
3. Create your spiritual plan
It’s really handy to have a plan or outline of your daily rituals.
This could include things like meditation, journaling, affirmations, visualisation, or specific yoga poses.
Having a solid plan helps keep you on track and makes sure you don’t skip any key steps. It’s like your personal roadmap to starting the day with positivity and purpose.
Write down your goals and intentions
Writing down your intentions for the day can be a wonderful way to handle your feelings and establish a deeper connection with the universe.
Dedicating just a small chunk of time – say, 10-15 minutes – to pen down your thoughts can do wonders in decluttering your mind and setting you up for the day.
Repeat and be patient
Lastly, be gentle with yourself.
Mastering spiritual practices can take time, so don’t get disheartened if you don’t see instant results. Enjoy the journey and the gradual progress that comes with consistent practice.

15 spiritual morning routine ideas
1. Wake up early
Start your day by waking up early, preferably before sunrise. This quiet time allows you to focus on your spiritual practices without the distractions of daily life.
2. Drink water
I always start the day with a large glass of water – before breakfast.
Drinking water helps to cleanse your system, boost your energy levels, and improve overall well-being. I’ve been doing this for a while and felt a difference within a few days.
3. Face massage
I love face massage or face yoga as it’s also called.
A gentle self-massage of your face promotes relaxation and improves circulation. It also helps modulate your skin’s appearance, giving you a fresh start to the day.
4. Breathwork
Have you heard of the 6-3-9 method?
You take a deep breath while you count to 6 in your head. Then hold your breath while counting to 3, and then exhale slowly to the count of 9.
This is also called deep breathing and it’s extremely effective for calming the nervous system. I do it every morning and several time during the day and I definitely feel more relaxed.
5. Meditate
Starting your day with meditation can help clear your mind and make you relaxed.
Make it a point to dedicate some time each day to concentrate on your breathing and watch your thoughts pass by.
6. Journal
One of my favourite spiritual morning rituals is journaling.
This is a way to reflect on your intentions, goals, and gratitude, and it can give you clarity and provide a sense of purpose.
7. Move your body
Choose a gentle exercise that resonates with you, such as stretching, yoga, or tai chi.
It will help energise your body and mind.
8. Spend time in nature
Connect with nature by going for a mindful walk, tending to your garden, or simply enjoying fresh air.
Recent research shows that being in nature can make you happier and help you get a more positive outlook on life.
9. Practice gratitude
Get into the habit of saying thanks for the good things in your life.
It’s a simple thing that can make you happier, help you get along better with others, and make you tougher when life throws you a curveball.
You can say thanks for your family, your health, for the good weather, for being alive. I doesn’t really matter what you give thanks to – just by being grateful you will feel more blessed and content.
10. Read inspirational books or texts
Kickstart your day by reading material that inspires and uplifts you.
This could include spiritual texts, motivational quotes, or personal growth books.
I read a lot of inspirational quotes both in the morning and during the day. It helps broaden my horizon.
11. Light candles or incense
Make your morning feel just right with gentle fragrances and a soft, comforting glow.
It can help you create a peaceful space that’s perfect for some quiet thinking time and unwinding.
12. Practice yoga
Yoga is a great way to start your day. It’s all about stretching, focusing on your breathing, and clearing your head. Here are some simple yoga moves:
- Downward-Facing Dog: It’s like a full-body stretch that also gets your blood flowing.
- Child’s Pose: A relaxing pose that helps to loosen up your back and shoulders.
- Bridge Pose: This one’s good for opening up your hips and strengthening your back.
Give yoga a try in the morning. It might just make your whole day go smoother. If you’re new to yoga, you might want to see some videos on Youtube. I recommend Yoga with Adriene, she’s so positive and warm.
13. Listen to calming music
Listening to soothing music or nature sounds can have a tremendous impact on your wellbeing.
I love the app Insight Timer and have used it consistently for more than a year. There are all kinds of sounds and meditations for relaxation, anxiety and sleep. I’m so happy about it that I use it all day while I work, also right now.
14. Affirmations
Start your day by reminding yourself that you’re worthy and perfect as you are. Find some good phrases and repeat them to yourself in the morning. For instance:
- I am loved just for being who I am, just for existing.
- I am peaceful and whole.
- I belong here, and I deserve to take up space.
- I am worthy of investing in myself.
15. Visualisations
Like affirmations can help shape your point of view, so can visualisations.
Picture your day going exactly as you want it to. See yourself succeeding in all your personal and professional tasks.
This kind of visualisation can really boost your confidence and positivity. It’s like setting a roadmap for success in your mind.
